Used Carp Rods

Carp rods are built around a single brief: cast a heavy lead a long way, then absorb everything a big fish does without the hook pulling. Most modern blanks are 12ft or 13ft, rated somewhere between 2.75lb and 3.5lb test curve, and often sold in matched pairs or threes so you can fish several spots at once.

Second-hand carp rods are one of the best-value corners of the tackle market. A well-kept rod from a recognised maker loses much of its retail price the moment it leaves the shop, but the blank will still handle fish for years — carbon does not wear out the way a reel does. What is worth checking is the ring inserts for cracks, the handle for compressed cork or split shrink wrap, and whether the tip has been re-whipped.
